End of the Spear

If you haven't heard this story.. or been inspired from history by these men... please see this movie. And if you have... please see it anyway! Opening weekend is this weekend - send a message to Hollywood that we want more like this to come from there!

It is an amazing story... and if you see it, please let me know. I have some cool stories to share with you that aren't in the movie, told to us by the director at a screening we attended in Tulsa.

It touches close to our hearts, of course, because it took place in Ecuador, and in fact part of the story was taking place while we were living there. It is truly inspiring.

Almost 60 of us from church will attend Friday night, maybe more - what a fun night, and exciting faith challenge to walk through together as a family!

I TOTALLY AGREE! Just to add a little something.... I first heard of this story when I went to a Steven Curtis Chapman concert several years ago (upon a recommendation from Greg!). Apparently SCC had become so taken by this story through his friendship with Steve Saint (surviving son of one of the murdered missionaries), that he decided to use his concert as a platform to get the word out. At the concert we saw a video about the story... and then Steve Saint and Mincaye (one of the missionary killers who is now a believer!) came on stage and gave their story in person! I stayed afterward to meet them. Mincaye doesn't know any English... but he understood hugs! I've been following this story ever since!

For your blog readers, even if you cannot make it to see the movie... there is another option. There is a documentary on this story available through Amazon. It's called "Beyond the Gates of Splendor" which stems from Elisabeth Elliot's (wife of one of the murdered missionaries, Jim Elliot) book "Through Gates of Splendor" which tells the beginning of the story. This DVD contains a lot of never-before-seen actual footage from the 50's as well as interviews with survivors now. I'm telling you... it's a powerful story! I get choked up just thinking about it. It has been a great testimony to how God works things out for His will in His time... even when we can't see any reason in some of the things that happen in our lives. Our God is so beautiful!

BTW... Heather I know you already know all that - especially having the Ecuador connection!
